Bridgette Fox just turned 9 years old. She was diagnosed
with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia - Type B - in July
2014.
In late June after school ended for the 3rd grade
Bridgette was complaining of pain and was looking pale,
her pain was from an enlarged spleen . She was
hospitalized at Albany Medical Center and given the
diagnosis of ALL Leukemia. She started chemotherapy at
Albany Medical center with a very long hospital stay in
July. In August 2014 after further testing Bridgette was
upgraded to high risk after some spinal fluid testing
found trace amounts of bad cells in her body.
She started a more intensive chemotherapy treatment with
many side effects, and hospitalizations. She has been
rushed to the hospital with breathing issues, several
fevers, including one from a rare bacterial infection
called Leptotrichia . This was from side effects of her
mouth sores due to the chemotherapy. She is among only
one other documented case of this infection in childhood
cancer patients.
She also has had ongoing treatments of methotrexate and
several other chemotherapy medicines all during fall of
2014 to combat her high risk status of her disease. She
is still currently in that treatment as we write this.
She spent her 9th birthday recently in the hospital like
a trooper.
She is not attending school due to being neutropenic,
and having some neuropathy in her legs, hands and feet
making it hard to walk. She has an excellent tutor
helping her keep on track for being a 4th grader.
Bridgette is an excellent student, an amazing strong and
funny child with 2 sisters and 4 cats and a hamster at
home. She is a bright girl with a love for art, cats,
cooking, and planting gardens. She is thankful to all
her care givers, our community support and her 4th grade
class and keeps a journal of them so she can do nice
things for them once she is feeling better.
