Dan Amos

Dan Amos, 31, is a graduate of Oneonta High School, Milford BOCES, and Alfred State College in Building Trades.  Dan is a self-employed carpenter in the local area.  Dan has been ill for over a year, finally being diagnosed with Sarcoidosis in August 2014 – an inflammatory disease that causes damage to the body’s own tissues.  Dan has a rare form of the disease with large masses on his brain, spinal cord, in his chest behind his heart, it is also in his lymph nodes and throughout his body.

There is no cure at this time, only treatments to try and control the symptoms and improve function of the organs affected by the disease.  A research foundation is actively trying to find a cure and learn more about the disease.  Once his doctor, a Sarcoidosis specialist, can get the disease under control, Dan requires surgery to remove a large benign tumor that is pressing on his esophagus and stomach.

Prior to becoming ill, Dan was active in sports and especially enjoyed basketball, volleyball and golf.  Dan has assisted with some of the ice preparation for the Polar Bear Jump in the past and jumped once.
