Hello, my son Jacob turned four on March 8, 2015. The week
before his fourth birthday we noticed that he started to
have frequent headaches, irregularities in his sleeping
patterns, and that he seemed to be limping and weaker on his
entire left side. On March 10,2015 Jacob was taken out to
Rochester to see a neurologist who specialized in Pediatric
neurology. There Jacob was admitted. On March 11, 2015 Jacob
underwent an MRI which showed a huge mass in the center of
his brain. Later on March 16,2015 shunts and a biopsy was
done which concluded what the doctors had already guessed.
Jacob was diagnosed with a cancerous Pilocytic Astrocytoma.
Unfortunately this tumor was so large(about the size of soda
can) and because of it being in the very center of his brain
it was acting almost as drain-plug and not allowing the
fluid to drain from his head. Which was causing a lot of
pressure on Jacob's brain. Also because it was in the very
center of his brain it will always be inoperable. After a
short recovery Jacob went into surgery again- this time for
a port placement and Lumbar puncture to be sure that his
cancer didn't spread. He also had his first round of
chemotherapy out of approximately 60 weeks. He goes each
week for his chemotherapy and it seems that its working.
It's a very slow but steady progress. We appreciate all of
your help and support.
